Campaign Finance Reform

Fairer campaigns, Fairer democracy

Proper campaign finance laws serve to promote a more legitimate, ethical, democratic government. Unfettered political spending allows special interests to drown out the voices and will of the people.

The Issues

Virginia requires notoriously little information about campaign expenditures, allowing candidates to spend with limited transparency or accountability.

Virginia is one of just five states without any restrictions on how much a corporation can contribute to a campaign.

Virginia candidates are allowed to use duly contributed campaign funds for personal expenses. This practice is prohibited in 47 states and on the federal level.

There are no limits to the amount an individual or a group can contribute to campaigns for state office in Virginia.
